Witnesses Say Motorist Intentionally Tried To Run Over Pro Choice Protesters

According to multiple witnesses - along with a video - a man in a truck attempted to run over pro-choice protesters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa over the weekend. Iowa is one of a few Republican-controlled states that have passed legislation allowing motorists to do this without being hit with criminal charges, and this appears to be the intent of the law in practice. This past Friday evening after the Supreme court handed down their decision overturning Roe V. Wade, uh, protestors actually protests erupted of course all over the country. But in Iowa, a group of protestors was according to witnesses, nearly killed when a man in a Ford truck attempted to run over them. Now, in case you haven't seen the video, we have the video, I'm gonna show you in a minute, but first I want to tell the story a little bit. You had a small group of protestors in the state of Iowa. Uh, they were in Cedar rapids. It was a red light. So they were crossing the street. So they had the right of way. They weren't protesting in the street. They, they were crossing the street just to get to the other side. They had their, you know, pro-choice signs. So this vehicle, according to witnesses, moved around the other cars that had stopped for the red light, ran the red light and then ran into the protestors. So here's the video. This is of course taken. After he initially made contact with the protesters. Here it is. So in that video, you know, you can see them, you know, kind of hitting on the truck, but it is important to understand that didn't begin until after he struck the protestor, he did run over somebody's ankle. She was taken to the hospital, um, and then he kept going.

They did not engage with the motorist until after he had hit them. And again, according to the witnesses, he ran the red light in order to do it. They were not protesting in the street. They were crossing the street and they had the right of way. Unfortunately, Iowa is one of three states in the nation that has passed a law shielding motorists from liability. If they strike a protestor in the middle of the street. So in the eyes of the law, in the state of Iowa, that man technically did nothing wrong. Now in the eyes of every normal person watching that video, hell yes, he did something wrong, but that is what these Republican governors, these Republican state legislatures, this is what they want. They want to take away your first amendment rights so that you can't complain when all of your other rights get taken away as well, which is of course exactly what these women and protestors were doing. They lost rights that day. And then they found out during their protest that they had lost even more rights than they had originally thought. Because under that state law, they didn't have the right to be there. The motorists in fact had the right to run them down without any fear of liability whatsoever. For the record. We also have a law like that on the books here in the state of Florida, Ron DeSantis,

Uh, gladly signed that last year and this is what they want. They want to be able to kill you for exercising. Your first amendment rights and Republicans wanna make it perfectly legal for you to be killed by a motorist for exercising your first amendment rights while you're protesting the loss of all of your other rights.
