17 Democrats Arrested While Protesting At The Supreme Court

17 Democratic lawmakers were arrested on Tuesday during a protest outside the Supreme Court over women's reproductive freedom. These are the kinds of actions that we want to see more of from our elected leaders - actually putting themselves out there with the people to fight for our rights. The future of the Democratic Party looks great, but only if we can hand the controls over to the young leaders. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Yesterday 17 members of Congress were arrested along with about 18 other individuals for protesting abortion rights outside of the capital near the Supreme court and these 17 members of Congress that of course included every member of the scroll, uh, squad along with people like Carolyn Maloney and, uh, Catherine Clark were arrested according to police for blocking the street. You know that thing that you cannot absolutely under any circumstances do you cannot block a street. It's okay. If you're in a big, giant 18 Wheeler blocking everything in Washington, DC, but God forbid you exercise your first amendment, right? To go out there and actually protest when you are fighting for the rights of the American people. So the rest of course, a little bit silly. The capital police insist that, Hey, we gave them the customary three warnings, and then we started to arrest people. And again, 17 democratic members of Congress were among those arrested.

Now here's the thing. I, I seriously doubt under any circumstance that any of these people are actually gonna be charged with anything, right? Nobody's gonna go to court over this. Certainly nobody's gonna really go to jail for any of this. But what I love about this story is the fact that this shows that we had at least 17 members of Congress that were willing to go out there in the streets with the people and fight stand there side by side with the people affected by this idiotic Supreme court ruling by this overly oppressive Supreme court ruling and go down with them. Right? Cause that, that that's the important thing. Like we didn't just leave when it got tough. When the cops said everybody dispersed, or we're gonna arrest you, we stayed with you through this act of civil disobedience through this act of exercising, your first amendment rights, we stood with you.

And we went down with you. That's the kind of leadership that the democratic party has been sorely lacking at the top. Clearly we have leaders in the party. Clearly we have people that want to stand with the people literally and figuratively. Those are the people that should be elevated to the leadership positions, right? These, these geriatric old individuals that have been serving in Congress since I was two years old. And yes, there's plenty of them. They need to step aside. What they need to do is say, listen, after our elections, we're gonna vacate our leadership positions. We're not leaving Congress cuz you know, we're already on the ballot, but we're gonna vacate the leadership positions and we're gonna pass it along. We're gonna pass that torch finally. And we're gonna pass it to these people that are clearly more in tune

With what the public needs and wants. Then we are because that's, what's happened to most of these people. They've become, you know, they've been in Congress so long spending most of their time in Washington, DC, that they've completely forgotten what it's like to be an average American, but these young leaders have not. And that is why they should be elevated to these positions. Civil disobedience here on this soil in this country is older than the country itself. Civil disobedience is what helped push us to revolution. Civil disobedience is what got women, the right to vote. Civil disobedience is what got us the civil rights and civil disobedience, again, as old as the United States of America itself and we need leaders.
