5:43Now PlayingFormer Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan took a pretty big shot at Donald Trump this week, saying in an interview on Fox Business that the nominee in 2024 needs to be "anybody not named Trump." Ryan joins a growing chorus of big-name Republicans, including Mike Pence and Jeb Bush, who say that they don't want Trump to be the nominee in 2024 because of the damage he's done and will do to the Party. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

During an appearance on the Fox Business Network this week, former Republican Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, said that the 2024 Republican presidential nominee needs to be quote anybody not named Trump. So on Fox, granted it was Fox Business, not the big channel, but on Fox talking to Stuart, Frien, Varney, Paul Ryan says, Anybody not named Trump? Let me read the quote. So I think anybody not named Trump, I think is so much more likely to win the White House for us, us being the Republican party. My party hasn't lost this much this fast than we have with Trump. We lost the House, the Senate, the White House in the space of two years. I don't wanna repeat that. I wanna win.
And Mr. Ryan, of course is echoing statements recently made by Mike Pence. By Jeb Bush, right? Good old boy. Traditional Republican politicians saying We will take anybody but Trump. But let me go ahead and point something out to Paul Ryan because apparently he has a memory problem. Paul Ryan, even though you did clash with Donald Trump on multiple occasions, you still delivered literally every single thing that he wanted. And yeah, Republicans got their kicked in the 2018 midterms. But who was Speaker of the house when those midterms happened? I can't, I mean, who was it? That was his speaker of the house in 2018 that had just passed a tax cut that off. Even Republican voters, uh, repeatedly tried to repeal Obamacare, but that ultimately failed. Again, kept promising infrastructure. You kept promising a new healthcare plan. You didn't, you didn't even produce legislation on any of that.
That was you. That was you, Paul Ryan. You did those things and then you're like, And we got our asses kicked and it's because of Trump. Yeah, Trump played a role in it. But so did you buddy cuz you went along with everything he wanted. You're the one who gave him that blank check. And then you're the one who gave the very big checks to the wealthy end of corporations with your tax cuts and you screwed over consumers as a lot of them actually saw their taxes go up and they're onto you. They realized they had been conned at that point. And that is one of the reason we did see them revolt against you. And that of course is actually why you retired after you passed that big massive tax cut. Cuz you knew like we're effed after this. Like we're not coming back from it. We've screwed up. We're really bad. But we did deliver the one last thing to our people. So now I can go, I gave them the tax cuts, they're gonna gimme a good job and money when I leave here, so I'm good to go. And they have,
And Paul Ryan has done very well for himself, but he is trying to paint himself and these other Republicans as normal. We're not the bad ones. That's just that Trump guy. He's the one who cost us all of this and he cost us dearly to a degree. Yeah. But don't ever underestimate the role that people like Paul Ryan played in off the American public enough to make them vote them all out of office. Because that is what happened. It wasn't just a repudiation of Donald Trump, it was a repudiation of the entire Republican party. And these morons don't seem to understand that. But luckily for them, of course the American public as a whole is very stupid. So even though, right, that was four years ago when the big blue wave came in because of all the horrible Republican policies. Now here we are four years later and the public's like, Well, I'm not super happy with Democrats.
