Trump Lawyers Back In Court BEGGING For Immunity For Former President

Donald Trump's lawyers decided that they were ready to lose again, and they went to court this week to once again argue that Donald Trump should have absolute immunity from the civil lawsuits that arose from the Stop The Steal rally. This argument has been shot down by every single court that this legal team has tried to argue in front of, but for some reason they decided to give it another shot. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains why this time will likely not be any different than the other attempts.

Ever since the first lawsuits were filed against Donald Trump for the events of January 6th, his lawyers have repeatedly gone to court and said, you can't sue this man in civil court because he has absolute immunity. He was president at the time and therefore everything he says and does is protected by that presidential immunity. They've argued it also, by the way, in other cases, both civil and criminal and in every instance where they have argued that Donald Trump has absolute immunity, the courts, even the Republican controlled ones have come back and said, no, you don't every single time. Which of course is what makes it so astounding that Donald Trump's lawyers went back to court on Wednesday of this week to address the civil lawsuits he is facing over the January 6th Capitol riots. And once again argued that, oh, he can't be sued because he has absolute immunity.

You have to take him off these lawsuits even after previous courts had also ruled that no, you don't have absolute immunity for what just said at the stop the steal rally. And there's actually a very clear reason why Donald Trump would not be granted immunity over these statements. Now, if Trump had come out in the Rose Garden of the White House, or spoken from the Oval Office itself and said these things, that would be basically due to location, an official statement from the President of the United States. The Stop the steel rally was viewed as a campaign event. And because it was viewed as a campaign event, Donald Trump was not speaking as the current president of the United States. This is what the courts have found. By the way he was speaking as candidate failed candidate Donald J. Trump. It was not in his official duties as president to go there.

He did that as a candidate who at the time was still under the belief that he could become the President of the United States for another four years. That makes it a campaign speech, not a presidential address. There is a world of legal difference between those two things, and that is of course, what the courts have consistently said. Now, he has, of course, argued this, as I said, in other cases, and there are still a couple where it may go in his favor, but the rest of 'em that have not been decided, it has not gone in his favor. So again, it absolutely blows my mind that his lawyers went back to court this week, made the same argument that had already been struck down on these particular cases. Like, is that really all you have? Is that really all you have to defend this man?

Because if it is, tell him to go ahead and get his checkbook out and and try to settle those lawsuits cuz you're not gonna win. Cuz you're not going to court making a legal argument. You're not going to court even defending him. You're trying to say that he can do whatever the hell he wants cuz he was president. That's not a defense that's going to work in front of a jury. And again, if that's all you have, he needs to prepare to either pay out massive judgments or try to end it quickly with a good settlement.
