Matt Gaetz Promises Trump Will Pardon Capitol Rioters And Give Them Huge Cash Settlements

Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is trying to entice people to vote for Donald Trump by promising that he'll not only pardon everyone convicted of rioting at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, but also suggesting that the DOJ might be handing out cash settlements to some of the convicts. This is a dangerous notion built on lies, as Gaetz is still suggesting that there were political motives behind these prosecutions. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

In an email to his constituents this week, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, not only promised that Donald Trump was totally going to pardon all of the Capitol rioters, but also that they may be entitled to financial compensation for their troubles. Here is what Matt Gaetz said in his email to his constituents right here in Florida's first congressional district. As I noted in my last post, one Congressman or even a more United House of Representatives can only do so much. Congress cannot issue pardons to January 6th. Defendants, for example, the most critical thing for these defendants we can do is to reelect Donald Trump in 2024. He has promised pardons and he will keep that promise. A Trump DOJ could also get to the bottom of prosecutorial misconduct and improper surveillance, and could provide money settlements, money settlements to the people who stormed the Capitol, assaulted police officers broke windows, stole things out of the Capitol building.

You are the victims and you may be entitled to financial compensation according to Matt Gates. Now, it's one thing to go out there and say that you stand with these people and you want them pardoned. It's one thing to say that, oh, we think there was prosecutorial misconduct. It's false, by the way. It's not real. It didn't happen. But it's one thing to say it. To go as far as to say that you actually want to reward these people, give them cash, like give them our tax dollars. That's insane. That is absolutely beyond comprehension for a rational thinking human being. To even go to that degree, there has been zero evidence, and let me say that again. Zero evidence of any form of prosecutorial misconduct. There has been no evidence whatsoever to suggest that these people were politically targeted because of their beliefs. Do you know why they were arrested?

Because they stormed the Capitol, their very presence inside the Capitol. It doesn't matter if they didn't break anything, if they didn't assault anybody, they didn't steal anything. Doesn't matter. Their presence inside the Capitol itself is illegal. They were expressly prohibited from being inside the building. They went in the building, which is criminal trespassing, and they got caught. They didn't get caught because of their political beliefs. They may have been there because of their political beliefs, but that's not why they got caught. That's not why they got prosecuted. They got prosecuted because they broke the law. And I can't believe

I, somebody without a law degree has to explain that to somebody like Matt, who does have a law degree. But Matt Gaetz knows everything I'm telling you. There is nothing that I am saying right now that would come as a shock to Matt Gaetz. He knows it all. He knows he's lying through his teeth, but he's doing it 'cause he thinks it plays well in this district. And unfortunately, he's probably right because that's what this district is all about. I have lived here for my entire life. It is not a place where somebody with my political views is necessarily celebrated or really even accepted. Matt Gaetz, on the other hand, he knows how to work these people over. He knows he's done not a single thing to make their lives better, but if he can throw 'em a little red meat by promising pardons to some of their buddies that are sitting in jail for participating in the Capitol Riot, then by God he's gonna do it.
