4:37Now PlayingIt is a violation of federal law (The Logan Act) for a private United States citizen to engage in foreign policy discussions with foreign countries and/or leaders. This is why many social media users are accusing Donald Trump of violating the law with a series of recent posts on social media. Trump boasted this week about a friendly conversation with the leader of Palestine, and then bragged that Netanyahu was going to visit him at Mar-a-Lago this coming Friday. Those seem like pretty clear violations of federal law, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Users on social media this week were quick to point out the fact that Donald Trump appears to have violated federal law again, um, by violating the Logan Act. So here's what happened. Donald Trump shared on social media a letter that he received from the leader of Palestine, uh, Mahmud Abbas. And this of course, came after Donald Trump used the phrase Palestinian as a slur against President Biden. During that debate, nevertheless, leader of Palestine sends him a letter that says, it is with grave concern that I have received news. And later on, watch footage of your attempted assassination, acts of violence, must not have a place in a world of law and order. Trump responded. He wrote a permanent marker on that letter. He said, so nice. Thank you. Everything will be good. Now, users on social media claim that this could be a violation of the Logan Act.
Now, the Logan Act prevents any private citizen from engaging in any kind of foreign relations with a government or the leader of a government. And that includes discussions of foreign policy and even for, by the way, elected officials, if they talk to foreign leaders about foreign policy in a way that disparages the official policy of the United States. That is also a violation of the Logan Act. Uh, uh, something that came up with, with Josh Hawley at one point. So people are saying that because Donald Trump got this letter for, from the Leader of Palestine, it could violate it, and maybe it does, but that's not the big one. The big one, of course, is that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is headed to Mar-a-Lago on Friday. So here we have a private citizen, a convicted felon, private citizen, by the way, meeting with the leader of a foreign government, a foreign government that is engaged in a massive, uh, uh, attack against Palestine.
So you can't convince me that Donald Trump is not going to talk policy with Benjamin Netanyahu. And if Donald Trump opens his mouth about a single piece of policy, what has happened, what could happen, or what he would do, that is a violation of federal law folks. So, yes, I agree with these people on social media that Netanyahu going, I don't know about the Palestinian letter. It didn't seem like they were talking policy. Um, if Netanyahu goes to Mar-a-Lago Trump should be, uh, they, they should press criminal charges against him like a hundred percent. Like Netanyahu's not going down there to just chill by the pool and have a couple of drinks. He's going there to talk policy with a private citizen of the United States. If he came to my house to do that, he wouldn't be welcome. But anyway, if he did, um, I would go to jail for a very, very long time. Donald Trump is no exception because
Much like me, Donald Trump is a private citizen there, there's no difference between us in that regard. So Netanyahu, I mean, hell, when Netanyahu shows up at Mar-a-Lago, 30 minutes later, the FBI should be knocking on the door with handcuffs for Donald Trump, that is a violation of the Logan Act. And by the way, don't just take it from me. Don't just take it from, you know, random people on social media. One MAGA fan on social media. Put this, he said, this may be the Logan Act violation. The Dems have been salivating for Give Trump a heads up somebody. So even Trump's own people are like, Hey man, uh, you're about to break the law. You've announced that Netanyahu's coming there, so you're announcing you're gonna break the law. Um, maybe don't. Your own fans are telling you that, Donald, so you can continue with this. Meaning if you want, obviously I can't stop you.
