Trump Nightmare Fuels Mass Exodus Of Americans To Europe

Around every election there’s always a faction of people who say that they are going to leave the country if the other side wins. In the past, those threats of leaving never actually happening, but things are much different this time around. A new report has found that a record number of Americans are leaving the country and fleeing to European countries like Spain who are welcoming these American refugees with open arms. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains what’s happening.

Know, it seems like every election cycle, um, at least for, you know, the last 20 years or so, we have seen people from both sides of the political spectrum tell us that if the other side wins, I'm leaving America. I'm not gonna live under Barack Obama. I'm not gonna live under Donald Trump. I'm not gonna live under Joe Biden. I'm not gonna live under George W. Bush and I'm not gonna live under Trump the second time. Right? I mean, it's kind of become almost a running gag at this point of people saying, if the other side wins, I'm out of the country. Right? And up until this year, it was mostly just bluster. It was all talk. People didn't actually leave the country because of who the president was. But then Trump won reelection. And it turns out that there is in fact a mass exodus of people fleeing the United States and going to live in Europe.

The European market is booming, particularly in northern Spain where Americans are buying up homes and villas and moving over there. The problem, and, and I don't wanna say it's a problem because I totally have no problem with these people doing this, but here's what happens. Spain actually had a program in place, it was called the Golden Visa, where if you as an American or anybody else, you know, anybody else wants to come, but mostly for you guys, Americans, come over here, buy a home, move over here, we'll give you a one year visa to live here while you work on, you know, getting a permanent visa. So all you had to do was just buy a piece of property, you know, a home, and boom, you're a citizen for at least a year. That program became so popular with Americans that Spain, uh, just in the last month or so had to cancel it.

They're like, alright, no, no, no, we can, we can't do this anymore 'cause you guys are taking up all of our property. Now, home purchases by Americans in Spain have increased by 57% in the first quarter of this year alone. And a lot of it is they don't wanna live in the nightmare that Donald Trump is creating for those of us here in the United States. But to be fair, that's not the only reason. Uh, according to the realtors in Spain, they say that the low cost of living in Spain compared to the US is a big motivator for some of these people fleeing the country and also gun violence. They don't wanna live in a country with as much gun violence as we have. So they're like, screw this. I'm gonna go to a different country. I'm going to uproot myself because Republicans love guns more than they love kids. That is a horrible statement to have to make, but it's a true statement right now. Are leaving the United States, according to the realtors over in Spain, are in fact members of the L-G-B-T-Q community and minorities, because those are the groups that fear, they are the most targeted under this complete Republican rule that we have in the United States. And for the record, they're not wrong. So we are losing people this time. The I'll leave the country of Trump wins wasn't hyperbole. They did it. They're doing it. And uh, just as a side note, I actually, uh, there was a woman I worked with who, who, who I absolutely love talking to her. Uh, you know, she moved to Spain a few months ago after the election. She had said, if he wins, I'm moving to Spain. And she did. You know, kind of sad that I don't get to see her and talk to her anymore, but she seems to be doing great. I'm still friends with her on Facebook. So good for her and good for all these people that got out.
