4:27Now PlayingDonald Trump has given plenty of reasons as to why he has launched his trade war with the rest of the planet, but the REAL reasons were revealed in leaked documents over the weekend. According to the administration itself, the goal of the trade war is to get business deals for his friends and likely even himself. This is specifically spelled out in those documents, so there’s no denying that this is the reasoning behind the trade war, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

In a shocking report this past Saturday, the Washington Post published internal emails from the United States Department of State that gave us the real reason why Donald Trump has launched a trade war with the rest of the planet. Here's the thing, when Donald Trump launched his trade war, and in the months since then, obviously we have been given contradictory reason after contradictory reason, you know, we're putting the trade war, the tariffs in place because we gotta stop the drugs coming in from Canada, Mexico, and China. That was the first reason, right? The second one was, well, we're gonna do it to Canada because they won't become the 51st state. And then it was, well, we have to reduce the trade deficits. And then it was, well, we gotta bring back a Manu American manufacturing. Well, and then it was, uh, these countries are doing business with other countries we don't like.
So we put tariffs on 'em, reason after reason, after reason. And based on the leaked documents that the Washington Post got ahold of from the State Department, it's all been. And the real reason why Donald Trump launched a trade war in the first place is the most obvious reason in the world. And it is according to the government's own documents, so that Donald Trump and his buddies can get business deals with other countries. That's it. That's the reason. That's the reason you are paying more money for everything you purchase more money at the grocery store, more money at the car, lot more money for appliances and computers and phones also that Donald Trump can pressure other countries into giving him and his friends business deals. Let me read you this. Uh, this is from Raw Story, by the way. One portion of the leak documents detail efforts to pressure the African Nation of Otto, threatened by Trump with a 50% tariff rate to grant the renewable energy company one power, a five year withholding tax exemption for it to develop an energy grid development, uh, project.
Other secret objectives of Trump's trade policy, according to the documents, include pressuring countries on China's border to develop stronger military ties with the US buying our weapons matters involving foreign United States military bases, and perhaps one that has become more well known, pressuring India to halt its purchases of Russian oil. The supplemental objectives of Trump's tariffs policy, one employee of the State Department said, sent Shockwaves through the government. The documents sent shockwaves through the government. This isn't normally how it works, said the State Department employee. Other sections included, of course, Donald Trump getting, you know, business deals, Chevron, getting oil deals with companies, Elon Musk starlink getting deals with companies or, or countries, excuse me. So all of Donald Trump's friends, or the industries that he likes, those were the quote, supplemental objectives of the trade war. You know, the ones that were really doing it for, but we have to keep it quiet. 'cause obviously the public's not gonna go for that. They're not gonna be okay with us putting, you know, 15 to 25% tariffs on everything coming from this country if they know that we're only doing it. So Elon Musk can get a deal with the government. You know, they're not gonna accept 20% tariffs from these Middle Eastern companies or countries if they know that we're only doing it so that I can build a Trump tower there,
