Last week, Donald Trump informed the world via Truth Social that he had ordered the US military to strike and kill 11 individuals on a boat in the Caribbean. Trump alleges that the people on the vessel were members of a Venezuelan gang transporting illegal narcotics, claims the Venezuelan interior minister vehemently denies. Officials have not identified who was on board, what illicit drugs were on the boat, or how the attack was carried out. Congress was not briefed in the week following the strike, a departure from the norms of previous administrations. New reporting indicates the vessel was turning around, heading back to shore when it was hit. Multiple strikes were used to kill all on board. Multiple sources are indicating the attack was perpetrated by one or more drones, but no official word from the Pentagon or the White House.

Officials familiar with the strike indicate more attacks in the Caribbean are forthcoming. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made clear the US could have halted the ship and arrested the crew, but chose to kill them instead, defiantly stating, instead of interdicting it on the president's orders, we blew it up. It'll happen again. In response, Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro has stated his country would deploy military, police and civilian defenses at 284 battlefront locations across the country. He has also announced an increase of 25,000 troops for states across the Venezuelan border with Columbia. The US has doubled its reward to $50 million for the information leading to the arrest of Maduro. Also, the US Navy has mobilized around 4,500 troops around the Caribbean. As escalations continue, we will monitor this story and report.
