Now the Court will review Donald Trump’s executive order that seeks to end birthright citizenship for certain children born here, raising the question of whether a president can undo a constitutional promise without an amendment or action from Congress. The outcome will determine whether citizenship remains automatic and secure or becomes conditional based on a child’s parentage. It could place millions in legal uncertainty or reaffirm a fundamental belief that America does not create second class children.
