10:15Now PlayingLisa Nandy, the shadow secretary for levelling up, told Times Radio that "the government has lost the plot."
Speaking to T&G on Sunday, Lisa Nandy reacted to Michael Gove's suggestion to take inspiration from the Medicis family who transformed Florence in the 15th century.
She said: "We've got a cost of living crisis unfolding in every nation and region of the UK, people simply don't have money to spend and yet the government is running around talking about this renaissance revival."
She added that the government was "missing the point" on levelling up.
She said: "What they're saying is you can do regeneration on the cheap, while we plough large sums of your money into one very small corner of the country."
Lisa Nandy went on to comment on Sue Gray's report, investigating Boris Johnson's parties in Number 10 during the pandemic.
She said: "the prime minister should end this circus and just be honest about what he knew.
"I don't need a criminal investigation to tell me whether I was at a party or not."
