14:52Now PlayingSir Geoffrey Nice QC, who led the prosecution of the former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic at the international criminal tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, tells Carole Walker that chances for Putin to appear at a war crime tribunal are unlikely.
He said: "If you can't get them to the place where the court sits, then it's not going to be effective.
He added that the present system had to be improved in order to allow for a trial.
He said: "A very important step that should be taken is to kick Russia off the security council or withdraw its veto, or in some other way, stop it having the power to stop itself being tried.
"That power, just think about this, you and your viewers and listeners, that power is the equivalent of Hitler being given the veto power in 1944 to say who will be tried at Nuremberg in 1946.
"So that's one way that the present system can be improved."
Sir Geoffrey Nice added there was little chance Putin would be tried. He said: "Remember, again, only if he's there can he be tried."
He also discussed the prosecution of the former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic and the Uyghur tribunal he chairs.
