Do I Really Have to Engrave My SBR/SBS if I'm Not Going to Sell It?

When you create an NFA item, be it a short barreled rifle (SBR), short barreled shotgun (SBS), Any Other Weapon (AOW), or Suppressor (Silencer) you have to engrave it with some key information so it can be tracked in the NFA Registry. Right off the bat- this is unconstitutional, and should not exist. Hopefully in my lifetime we will see this outdated process end. That said, this is the current state of things. Today I am going to walk you through the details of what you need to engrave. I am also going to show you a few examples of things I have done, and hopefully give you some of the "dos and do nots"

For clarification, this is not a requirement of the ATF Form 4 process. Which is decent argument against Form 1 vs Form 4. Remember that the ATF Form 4 process is the transfer of an NFA item from one party to another. The ATF Form 1 process adds a new item to the registry. Think of a Form 4 as having this step already completed and you are just moving it around.
