4:33Now PlayingOf all the Democratic senators who voted down an amendment that would restore $4 billion in food stamps cuts to the Senate farm bill by reducing federal crop insurance reimbursements, Take Action News' Executive Producer Daniel Marans is most baffled by the vote of liberal stalwart Senator Tom Harkin (D - Iowa). Harkin has always been a champion of the middle- and working-classes. In an article in In These Times, Harkin told Cole Stangler: "While I dislike the SNAP cuts in the Senate bill, I believe that Senator Stabenow has done her best to minimize the SNAP cuts, especially relative to the House bill, which indiscriminately and needlessly slashes the SNAP program." For Marans, that's not good enough. Senator Harkin is retiring in 2014; it is time to take risks for needy Americans.
