13:01Now PlayingKalpona Akter, Executive Director of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, talks to EP and guest host Daniel Marans live by phone from Dhaka, Bangladesh about upcoming actions to improve workplace safety and living standards for workers in Bangladesh in the wake of the Rana Plaza and Tazreen factory disasters. Akter supports a strategy of corporate and government accountability on all fronts including pressuring retailers, pressuring investors, worker organizing, demonstrations and international trade policy. Akter shared the challenges of fighting for workers' rights in Bangladesh after her colleague Aminul Islam was found dead with signs of torture. "I do not fear death when I think about the thousands of lives I can save through my work," she said. Akter called on all activists to join her on the June 29 international day of action to stop death traps.
