7:12Now PlayingTuesday marks the first anniversary of the day former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd. The George Floyd Justice In Policing Act is calling for an end to qualified immunity. "Start Your Day" hosts Sharon Reed and Mike Hill give their thoughts on qualified immunity and police reform legislation.
"The reason they're fighting so hard to keep qualified immunity is because they want to keep the option of murdering Black people without consequence," Reed says. Hill agrees and says officers should be financially responsible for the crimes they commit.
