The documentary “Yusuf Hawkins: A Storm Over Brooklyn," currently streaming on HBO Max, retells the lead-up to and aftermath of the heart wrenching murder of a 16-year-old Black teenager in 1989. The film details the night of the murder that cut another Black life short. The film also covers the anti-Black prejudice and the tireless work of social justice activism sparked by lack of accountability. The strongest aspect of the documentary is the sudden roles Hawkins' parents are called to embody while trying to heal from the trauma of losing their son. The film's director Muta'Ali joins "Black News Tonight" with Marc Lamont Hill to unpack the story.
