8:49Now PlayingFibroids are a medical condition that affects up to 80% of women in the United States.
Black women are three times more likely than others to have the non-cancerous growths in the uterus and suffer from severe symptoms. July is Fibroid Awareness Month, and it is an initiative created to focus attention on uterine fibroids and the challenges it creates for millions of women around the world. It is also intended to promote the issue in an effort to get additional research and funding for the condition. Tanika Gray Valbrun, the co-founder of The White Dress Project, joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the condition and the importance of awareness.
