3:42Now PlayingFormer President Donald Trump files a class action lawsuit against Facebook, Twitter and Google for violating his freedom of speech. The social media sites suspended his accounts after the January 6th insurrection attack on the Capitol.
Legal Expert Candace Kelley breaks down this lawsuit in another edition of “Open and Shut.” Kelley explains that Trump is suing on behalf of the MAGA base. Kelley believes that this lawsuit is nothing more than a fundraising stunt, but Trump did file this lawsuit with the America First Policy Institute.
Shortly after announcing the lawsuit, Trump put out a letter in order to rally MAGA supporters. Kelley believes this lawsuit will fail because it will require Trump to speak about January 6th incident, which his lawyers will probably not advise him to do. Also, his first amendment rights weren’t being violated by the Congress. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are private companies that make the rules for their social media sites. In the case of Trump, he didn’t follow the rules and therefore was kicked off.
