7:44Now PlayingLaunched in 2015, Black Girls Vote is a national organization that empowers Black women to use their voice by exercising their right to vote. The organization just released a report on the civic health of Black women.
CEO and founder of Black Girls Vote, Nykidra Robinson, told Laverne McGee on “In the Black” that her goal is to help make sure Black women are represented “beyond just the ballot box.” The organization deals with issues including women in civic health, debt crisis and maternal mortality rates, which are all, in some way, connected to voting rights. “We understand that this is not just a Black issue, this is a democracy issue. As Fannie Lou Hamer said, ‘We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired,’” Robinson said.
