The Dow Jones rose 220.30 points to finish at 35,484.97. S&P gained almost 11 points to end at 4,447.70 and NASDAQ fell close to 23 points to close at 14,765.14
Also, a report from the Labor Department says that prices rose in July, but it was at their slowest pace since February. The slowing of inflation is a good indicator for the overall economy, as it means wage gains aren’t being eaten up by higher prices.
August is Black Business Month, which means that the contributions of Black-owned businesses in America are being celebrated. “We know that Black-owned businesses and small businesses in general are the biggest job creators and the lifeblood of this country,” said Byna Elliott, who is the head of Advancing Black Pathways at JP Morgan Chase.
