17:45Now PlayingAs the August jobs report leaves economists both disappointed and concerned, President Joe Biden holds a briefing live from the White House. The report was taken live on “DC Today.”
The economy created 235,000 new jobs in August and unemployment rates fell to 5.2%, the lowest it has been in 18 months. “Despite the impact of the Delta variant, what we’re seeing is an economic recovery that's durable and strong,” Biden says, adding that his plan is working and we’re getting results. “This report means that we have been adding an average of 750,000 jobs per month, on average, during the past three months.” Biden says the total job creation in the first seven months of his administration is nearly double any prior first year president. He notes that though both himself and America wanted to see a larger number, we’ve seen continued growth month after month in job creation. Biden says the wealthy also need to start paying their fair share with taxes, but as long as we stick together and remember who we are, “Nothing is out of reach.”
