Mental health and wellness expert Jane Marks joins BNC’s Najahe Sherman to help address and bust the rarely talked about second hand stress, or taking on someone else’s catastrophic emotions. “Pay attention to your feelings,” says Marks. “You just notice them, and you keep them from taking over and you don’t want to let little things get to you. You place them in the scope of a big picture.” Marks says try not to put yourself in situations where a lot of second hand stress is created, including crowds, heavy traffic and long lines. Healthy habits such as sleep, diet, and exercise, five-minute breaks at work every hour and a sense of humor are also helpful stress relievers.
