This news comes as Maryland announced they will begin investigating all civilian deaths at the hands of police. BNC chief legal correspondent Dr. Laura McNeal joins BNC to discuss more about Maryland’s efforts at police reform.
According to Dr. McNeal, essentially they've created a special unit within the state attorney general's office that will investigate any death that is the result of police hands or police-involved shootings or killings. It’s very significant because it's not just symbolic investigations.
With other states having similar changes in their procedures, the hope is that even more will make a more concerted attempt at reforming the police across the country.
“Yes, this is a huge reform measure and I'm hoping that other states will follow Maryland's lead,” McNeal says.
