3:31Now PlayingCalifornia passed a bill making it the first state to require students to take an ethnic studies class to graduate from high school.
Lawmakers and educators say ethnic studies will help students understand the past and present struggles of different communities of color to try to end bigotry and racism. Additionally, they also want students to be critical of the power structures that have been obstacles for people of color.
BNC correspondent Anser Hassan joins Shannon LaNier on “BNC Live” to provide more details about the bill.
