In fact, the disease affects 100,000 Americans, though approximately every 1 in 365 patients is Black. BNC’s “Be Well” series is highlighting Zoey Gayle, an 11-year-old sickle cell warrior who educates anyone who will listen. BNC’s chief medical officer Dr. Corey Hébert and Gayle’s mother Jennifer Fletcher praise the preteen, who has dreams of becoming a doctor, for her efforts and determination.
