3:27Now PlayingThe news of Colin Powell’s death prompted an outpouring of grief that reflects the profound admiration of a statesman unique in so many ways. Tributes poured in from presidents, prime ministers and other politicians, including President Joe Biden. Biden says Powell “embodied the highest ideals of both warrior and diplomat” adding that he “will be remembered as one of our great Americans.” From his heritage as the son of immigrants to his storied military career before becoming a public servant, Powell paved the way for so many including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. Lloyd remembers Powell as a tremendous husband, father, friend and mentor. Powell, 84, was among the most vulnerable to the pandemic due to a serious form of blood cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
