9:44Now PlayingMinneapolis, Minnesota native Sherman Townsend spent more than 10 years behind bars after being convicted of a burglary he didn’t commit.
Despite a lack of any physical evidence tying him to the crime, he was found guilty by a mostly white jury and given the maximum sentence of 20 years.
With the help of the Great North Innocence Project, Townsend was released from prison in 2007 after another man confessed to the robbery.
Julie Jonas, legal director for the Great North Innocence Project, joins Yodit Tewolde on “Making the Case” to discuss Townsend’s case.
