Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Calls Biden’s Economic Plan ‘Transformational’

Sen. Joe Manchin expressed his unwillingness to support President Biden’s budget framework until its impact on the deficit, inflation and tax code are further explored.

For the Congressional Black Caucus, Manchin’s ambivalence signals further delayed progress for the Black community. The $1.75 trillion spending package was seen as a victory for the CBC as they made it clear that the Biden administration must keep its promises to the Black community.

That includes HBCU funding, an increased child tax credit, affordable housing and Medicare expansion provisions. Many of these provisions were significantly reduced during negotiations, but some funding remained.
