Mays examines both the enslavement of Africans and Native dispossession and reveals how the two were deeply intertwined. It’s an incredible book and one of the first to offer simultaneous accounts of Black and Indigenous resistance on these lands.
Dr. Mays, an assistant professor of African American studies, American Indian studies and history at UCLA, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to break down the book.
