Just hours before Jones was set to die by lethal injection, Gov. Kevin Stitt altered the severity of the 41-year-old’s sentence to life without the possibility of parole. Jones was convicted in 1999 for the killing of a man during a carjacking. He has always professed his innocence. After spending more than half of his life in prison, he will spend the rest of his life there.
Co-director for Forward Justice, Daryl Atkinson, joined “AMplified” to discuss the outdated system of capital punishment and what alternatives could be used instead.
