Mickey Guyton earned three nods from the academy, including Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.
With her album, titled “Remember Her Name,” she becomes the first Black artist to earn a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album.
“To some this may seem odd, but there would be no country music without Black artists like Mickey Guyton,” said Charles Blow.
