8:49Now PlayingThe definition of the acronym STEM is pretty straight forward, it stands for science, technology, engineering and math.
According to the PEW Research Center, Black and Hispanic workers are routinely under-represented in the science fields. Overall, Blacks and Hispanics make up a total of 17% of those workers in STEM. That’s compared to 67% of the jobs held by their white counterparts. In life sciences, physical sciences and engineering for both groups, there’s a chasm between the number of those working in these fields and white people.
Executive director of Sociedad Latina, Alexandra Oliver-Dávila, joined “AMplified” with Aisha Mills to discuss the lack of access to resources for children of color.
