The assassination attempt occurred days after Haiti celebrated its 218th anniversary on Jan. 1 of its independence, which its people acquired through an epic struggle for freedom and the inalienable rights of human beings, without distinction, to live free.
Saturday was to be a day of commemorating the island's national independence, celebrating its heroes and leaders from past.
