The humanitarian crisis continues to happen within the walls of New York City’s Rikers Island.
The jail complex, located on an island between the Bronx and Queens, has a long and dark history of violence. New surveillance footage from inside the jail, published by the New York Times, not only shows a dangerous environment, but also the indifference shown by prison officials to the violence.
