6:32Now PlayingA Florida school district cancelled a college professor’s seminar to teachers on the history of the civil rights movement citing concerns over critical race theory.
Dr. Jay Michael Butler, Kenan Distinguished Professor of history at Flagler College, was scheduled to give a lecture called “The Long Civil Rights Movement” to Osceola County District teachers when the seminar was cancelled due to concerns over the controversial subject.
Less than 24 hours before he was informed of the cancellation, a state Senate committee at the behest of Governor Ron DeSantis advanced legislation to block public schools and private businesses from making people feel “discomfort” when they’re taught about race.
Butler joins Del Walters on the “DC Today” to discuss.
All this and more on “DC Today.”
