Despite the omicron surge forcing workers to take leave for illness or care for sick relatives or kids out of school, the Labor Department says the number of jobs beat mainstream economists' expectations. Karin Caifa says the unemployment rate ticked up to 4% as more Americans actively sought employment. The leisure and hospitality added 151,000 jobs and transportation and warehousing added 54,000, among other gains.
