A year after her mother Diane Ladd's passing from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease, Laura Dern says she remembers her mother by paying it forward, including with her campaign Beyond the Scars. Dern also said that while doctors told Ladd she would only have three to six months to live after her diagnosis, she lived another seven and a half years and was able to accomplish many personal and professional goals.
