Man Arrested After Repeatedly Stealing from Hoboken ShopRite

Around 11:24 AM on August 4, 2024, Officer Jessica Lee with the Hoboken Police Department was dispatched to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. She arrived on scene around 11:40 AM and made contact with Felix in front of the main entrance. Felix led her upstairs to the loss prevention office. In the loss prevention office, she made contact with the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as 51-year-old Orlando Sierra.

The loss prevention official informed Officer Lee that the man attempted to leave the store without paying for about $106.83 worth of items. He also told them that they had him on video shoplifting 2 days earlier on Friday. Two other officers arrived on scene shortly afterwards. After review the surveillance footage, Officer Lee placed Orlando under arrest for shoplifting.

Orlando was transported to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At police HQ, he was searched in more detail. He was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(5) and released with a summons pending his court appearance. Court records indicate that on August 28, 2024, Orlando pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Disturbing the Peace under ordinance 145-1. As a result of his guilty plea, he had to pay a total of $1,033 in fines.
