3:00Now PlayingAt a press briefing a week ahead of the June Climate Change Talks in Bonn, Yvo de Boer emphasized that the negotiations next week must keep focused on a common way forward towards a concrete, realistic goal at Cancún - namely, a full, operational architecture to implement effective, collective climate action.
He added that the June session can also significantly advance the new text being tabled by the Chair of the AWG-LCA that integrates parts of the Copenhagen Accord.
Cancún can deliver, Mr. de Boer said, if promises of help are kept and if promises to compromise are honoured. A priority is for industrialized countries to deploy the USD 30 billion they pledged from now to 2012 to kickstart climate action in developing countries.
He further encouraged governments now to develop greater clarity on the future of the Kyoto Protocol.
