Albright and former National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley led the event, entitled “Beyond Refugees,” the third public hearing of the Middle East Strategy Task Force (MEST). Presented by the United States Institute of Peace and the Atlantic Council, the event examined the long-term societal transformations resulting from the refugee crises in the Middle East and North Africa. MEST Co-Chairs Albright and Hadley, in conversation with IRC President David Miliband, USIP President Nancy Lindborg, and Mayor Antoine Frem of Jounieh, Lebanon, highlighted constructive steps that could be taken to mitigate the risks to vulnerable populations, and discussed the reconstruction of conflict-affected communities.
