Despite what the detective will tell you, Sherlock is not a master of deductive reasoning but of abductive reasoning.
Deductive reasoning is where the conclusion of an argument cannot be false if all the premises are true. It is completely airtight. This sort of reasoning is best suited to maths, logic, and philosophy.
Sherlock instead uses abductive reasoning, where you evaluate a situation and try and come up with the best explanation for what has happened in that situation. This is much better suited for solving crimes, as very few of them occur in maths classrooms.
