A preliminary investigation into the downing of an Embraer aircraft near Aktau, Kazakhstan, has found that the crash was caused by a Russian missile. This was reported by Euronews, citing sources in the Azerbaijani government. According to the media outlet's sources, a surface-to-air missile was fired at Flight 8432 when drone activity was detected over Grozny. The missile exploded near the plane, and its fragments hit the passengers and crew. Euronews‘ government sources noted that the damaged plane was not allowed to land at any Russian airport, despite the pilots’ requests for an emergency landing. The plane was ordered to fly across the Caspian Sea to Aktau in Kazakhstan. The aircraft's GPS navigation systems were jammed throughout the flight over the sea.
