Here’s a simple way to slash your risk of traveler’s diarrhea, says Dr. Trisha Pasricha (@trishapasrichamd), a physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and The Washington Post’s Ask a Doctor columnist.

Constipation is a known side effect of taking bismuth subsalicylate, so ease up if you feel backed up. Always check with your physician, but as a general rule, limit use to no more than three weeks at a stretch.
