Is there a solution to the free speech crisis on college campuses? Yes, and the University of Chicago has it.

The University of Chicago made international headlines in the summer of 2016 when its dean of students sent a letter to incoming freshman warning them that the university flatly rejects the creeping censorship infecting so many other college campuses. “We do not support so-called ‘trigger warnings,’ we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial,” the letter read. “We do not condone the creation of intellectual ‘safe spaces’ where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own.” Since then, Chicago has proven to be a rare champion for free speech, regularly hosting unpopular and provocative voices.

Why is the University of Chicago the place that’s leading this fight? And can it resist the mounting pressure to abandon its commitment to free speech? We the Internet TV’s Rob Montz went to the Chi-town campus to find out.
