In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - former merchant mariner and maritime historian at Campbell University - discusses the diesel shortage in the mid-Atlantic and New England region of the United States and how American tankers and Section 27 of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 (commonly known as the Jones Act) impacts this issue. He also addressed the role of the Departments of Defense and Commerce in advocating for the US tanker industry and how it impacts the national security of the nation by waiving the Jones Act.
