We know statistically that it is safer to fly than drive but if a different set of conditions are involved, like your homes distance from an airport, the chances of an incident might be higher than you think. Aviation attorney Paul Hedlund offered his insight about airplane crashes near airports, pilot error and controller error. Hedlund also believes these incidents are not coincidences, rather, that the smaller airports are uncontrolled, with no one determining flight patterns, and some pilots dont abide by the rules.
