4:19Now PlayingA deeply disturbing development in Western Sydney's criminal underworld has triggered widespread public outrage after a targeted assassination attempt unfolded in close proximity to a local school. Shocking security camera footage captured the harrowing moment a known gangland figure was nearly gunned down while rushing his 15-year-old daughter to safety during busy school pickup hours in Fairfield West.
Reporting live from the scene near the Fairfield Police Station, Sydney Reporter Jack Hahn highlighted that while organized crime syndicates typically operate without regard for the law, there has historically been an unwritten code amongst gangsters that children and families remain strictly off-limits. This brazen attack confirms that the underworld playbook has been entirely thrown out the window, posing a critical danger to innocent bystanders.
To dissect the terrifying implications of this failed hit, the studio was joined by renowned author and former New South Wales Homicide Detective Gary Jubelin. Jubelin expressed profound concern over the public nature of the shooting, emphasizing that when gangland violence overspills into school zones, it is only a matter of time before an innocent person gets killed.
The investigation has further exposed a worrying trend regarding youth exploitation within modern criminal networks. Detective Jubelin warned that organized crime figures are increasingly hiring impressionable young people to fulfill violent contracts. These young recruits are throwing away their lives for small fees to execute the dangerous tasks that older gang leaders are too cowardly to perform. NSW Police are utilizing proactive and reactive policing strategies to regain control of the streets, tracking down suspects while reinforcing public reassurance.
