Video produced by Shannon Corvo of ABC Port Pirie.

Kartika is not a regular cat.

The four-year-old Bengal has a social media following, an independent attitude and a taste for adventure.

One of her favourite pastimes — apart from chasing ping pong balls around the house — is travelling through the outback with secondary school teacher Lou Myers, 34.

Kartika has travelled to places like Alice Springs in the Northern Territory and Coober Pedy in remote South Australia, while attached to a lead and harness.

They go hiking up mountains, swimming in waterholes and running through the red desert dirt.

Ms Myers bought Kartika in 2016 for companionship, as she works and lives in a remote Aboriginal community in South Australia.
