Sono Sakamoto was a young Japanese sex worker living in the ‘wild west’ of the Goldfields at the beginning of the 20th century.
After the death of her infant daughter, she fled her violent husband to a neighbouring town called Kanowna.
There, she and her cousin were murdered. Sono’s gravestone still lies amongst the bushes of the abandoned ghost town, long deserted by its former inhabitants.
119 years later, a Kalgoorlie tradesman went to find the old graves and dedicated a creation of his to the terrible fate of the Kanowna victims.
